At the State Level Sanctioning and Monitoring (SLSM) committee meeting, around 1,13,149 dwelling houses have been sanctioned for the homeless households in 114 cities and Odisha towns.
The urban poor people live in a miserable condition, and many are even homeless, to which this notable decision was made. The State Level Sanctioning and Monitoring (SLSM) committee held a digital mode meeting where the Additional Chief Secretary and Development Commissioner Suresh Chandra Mahapatra chaired the panel from Lok Seva Bhavan. Principal Secretary Housing & Urban Development G Mathivathanan discussed the issue thoroughly.
Additional Chief Secretary and Development Commissioner Suresh Chandra Mahapatra directed the urban local bodies (ULBs) to build up the Jaga Mission activities in all the areas. He further stated that a house is a necessary amenity for the Urban Poor, and allotting a piece of land to the landless poor will make a considerable difference to eradicate Urban poverty. OUHM will also give integrity and self-dignity if the landless people own a small piece of land in their own name and have their home.
He further directed the Revenue and Disaster Management department and ULBs to find out more pieces of land and protect those who violate for bringing the dispersed houses into one place of resettlement to provide other essential services more systematically. Even identifying the slum dwellers who can be allotted land under the forest rights act in urban areas has been directed to ULBs.
According to the official data, out of 1,39149 sanctioned houses, 7300 were approved under the in-situ slum redevelopment program, 6,962 were endorsed under the affordable housing program, and the balance 1,24,887 units were authorized under beneficiary led constriction ( BLC) program.
