In the midst of controversy over the existence of the Corona variant, the World Health Organization has named the SARS-CoV-2 as easier to pronounce and remember. The virus responsible for the coronation is named after the Greek alphabet. The name was decided after extensive consultation and interpretation.

The WHO has instructed expert groups around the world to do the same. This included experts in the naming system, and non-nuclear, bacterial taxonomic experts, the National Authority. The WHO will assign a variety of labels, either as variants of interests or as variants of concern.

It has been decided to rename the Corona variant B.1.617.2 G / 452R.V3, which was first identified in India in October 2020 as Delta. Similarly, the second strain of corona (B.1.617.1) identified in India is named ‘Kappa’. The Corona variant, found in the UK in September 2020, is named Alpha. In addition, the variant found in South Africa is named ‘Bita’. The strain found in Brazil was named by WHO last year. Last year, the identified variant in the United States was named “Epsilon” and the variant in the Philippines was named “Theta”.
