Ladakh is the first Union Territory to distribute free tablets to school children

Ladakh’s Deputy Governor LG Mathur has launched the Un-Tab scheme for students. More than 12,000 students will benefit. Under the scheme, Ladakh has become the first union territory in the country to distribute free tablets. Online and offline content has been uploaded to these tablets, including e-textbooks, video lectures and online classroom applications.

The tablets will be distributed to students in grades six to twelve in the state over the next two months. According to a statement issued by the Ladakh administration, the school education department’s technical assistance is in line with the technical assistance of the UNTAB Scheme Information Technology to address the plight of students during the Corona epidemic.

Addressing the gathering, LG Mathur emphasized the importance of education technology in the coming years and expressed his satisfaction with the immediate needs of the students of Ladakh. Free tablets were distributed among students from remote areas on the occasion. “It’s not just about the corona epidemic, it’s about integrating technology into the education system,” he said.

The purpose of the special scheme is to provide high-tech education in remote areas of Ladakh, where internet access has not yet been reached. He said the central government had provided adequate funding for the scheme.
