What Tripura’s Sneha Debnath Told Her Family in Final Call Before Heading to Delhi’s Signature Bridge

Sneha Debnath, a 19-year-old student from Tripura studying at Delhi University, was found dead six days after she went missing. Her body was recovered from the Yamuna River near the Geeta Colony flyover on Sunday evening, police confirmed.

Sneha’s last known contact was with her mother at 5:56 AM on July 7, when she said she was heading to Delhi’s Sarai Rohilla Railway Station with a friend named Pitunia. However, when the family couldn’t reach her later that morning, and Pitunia denied meeting her, alarm bells rang.

A subsequent probe traced Sneha’s last location to Delhi’s Signature Bridge. A cab driver confirmed dropping her there that morning. The area, often associated with suicide attempts, has limited CCTV coverage, complicating the investigation.

A handwritten note suggesting suicidal intent was found in her room, leading police to register a case at Mehrauli Police Station. A coordinated search operation involving the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was launched along the Yamuna.

Sneha, originally from Sabroom in Tripura’s South district, was pursuing a BA in Mathematics at Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College in South Delhi. She lived in the Paryavaran Complex.

Described by her family as a “bright and ambitious young woman,” Sneha had not made any financial transactions in the past four months, raising questions about how she was managing her expenses. She also left home without carrying any personal belongings.

Her father, Subedar Major (Hon.) Lt. Pritish Debnath (Retd), is battling chronic kidney failure and undergoing dialysis. The family had created an online dashboard to seek public help in tracing her.

Sneha’s body was finally located after a multi-day search from Nigam Bodh Ghat to Noida. Her family identified the remains. The investigation is ongoing.
