Nalco reports a huge leap in output and a Rs. 135 crore first-quarter net profit

The National Aluminium Company Limited (Nalco), a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Mines of the Government of India, has released its first quarter 2016 results. The Board of Directors recorded the reviewed financial results for the first quarter of fiscal year 2016–17 in a meeting on Monday in Bhubaneswar. These results show that Nalco registered a net profit of Rs. 135 crore, down from Rs. 174 crore during the same period of the previous fiscal.

On all fronts, Nalco has experienced exceptional development in output. Bauxite output was 17.04 lakh tonnes during the quarter, up almost 46% over the 11.64 lakh tonnes produced during the same time last year. Production of alumina hydrate increased by 35% to 5.24 lakh tonnes from 3.88 lakh tonnes in the equivalent period of the previous fiscal year. The business produced 94,496 tonnes of aluminum during the quarter, up roughly 10% from the 85,722 tonnes produced in the first quarter of the previous fiscal year. The quarter’s net electricity production was 1489 million units. Compared to the 1358 million units produced during the same period previous year, this is up by around 10%.

Despite a sharp increase in output, poor market realization caused a decline in profit throughout the quarter. 2.91 lakh tonnes of alumina were sold overall during the quarter, and 82,386 tonnes of aluminum. Nalco’s performance is seen as a “Silver Lining” in the middle of the decline in both local and foreign markets, but, given the sluggishness of the global metal market.
