Bengal government offers rewards for info on illegal firecracker units

The state administration started the move towards unlawful fire cracker units after four horrific blasts claimed the lives of 16 individuals in the last 10 days.According to a senior official, the state government of West Bengal said that it would reward anyone who provided information to the administration on the operation of illegal firecracker units after 16 people were murdered in four blasts there in the previous 10 days.In a meeting, it was requested of the district magistrates that only firecracker units with explosive and fire licences, in addition to training certificates from the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute, be permitted to operate.Government-issued licences are also required for facilities that store fireworks, the spokesman said.According to him, the state government has also proposed testing firecrackers for safety requirements and environmental contamination before they are put on the market.
Since May 16, four explosions have taken place in various parts of the state, leaving at least 16 dead and a number of others hurt.
