Monsoon arrival in Kerala likely to be delayed further

Around June 1, the monsoon typically arrives in Kerala before moving north and engulfing the entire nation by July 15.Kerala’s monsoon season is anticipated to start later than planned, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which did not provide a new start date. Westerly wind patterns, for example, were favouring the onset of favourable circumstances. However, a decrease in cloud cover—another essential element for the onset—off the Kerala coast has resulted from the creation of a cyclonic circulation that on Tuesday strengthened into a depression over the Southeast Arabian Sea.

According to the most recent observations, a depression has developed over the southeast Arabian Sea, 920 km west-southwest of Goa, 1120 km south-southwest of Mumbai, and 1160 km south of Porbandar. Within the next 24 hours, it is expected to move almost northward across the adjacent southeast Arabian Sea and east central Arabian Sea, according to IMD.Around June 1, the monsoon typically arrives in Kerala before moving north and engulfing the entire nation by July 15. On May 16, IMD predicted that Kerala would likely see monsoon weather on June 4 with a model error of +/-4 days.IMD reported westerly winds were still present over the southern Arabian Sea on Monday. It stated that the cloud mass was now more organised and concentrated over the Southeast Arabian Sea and mentioned the cyclonic circulation as evidence. “Over the past 24 hours, there has been some clearing of the clouds off the coast of Kerala.”
