Drone usage restricted during Rath Yatra, Puri Police issues advisory

Puri Police has issued an advisory on drone flying in Puri city, particularly the Grand Road, during the time of the Rath Yatra to Niladri Bije, which is from June 20 to July 1, 2023. This is done with an eye toward the safety and security of Sri Jagannath Temple, Sri Gundicha Temple, the chariots of the deities, as well as the safety and security of the devotees.

The warning read as follows: It has been noticed that many private individuals and drone operators utilize drones for a variety of reasons during the Rath Yatra time. Unrestrained drone use by untrained drone operators puts followers at risk for injury. A few private individuals have already faced legal repercussions for breaking drone regulations.

A public interest concern is the safety of followers and the prevention of untrained and unauthorized drone operations.

Defaulters would be subject to legal action. Everyone is urged to cooperate.

According to The Drone Rules 2021, Sri Jagannath Temple has been designated a red zone, and according to rule 22, drones are not permitted to fly above the temple’s grounds.
