The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) is once again in the news due to the suicide of a student who failed the test and the death of his father, who also allegedly committed himself.
After two tries, Jagadeeswaran, who had received 427 out of a possible 427 in his Class XII graduation in 2022, failed to pass the entrance exam. He was discovered dead at home on Saturday after failing to answer calls from his father. The following morning, his father Selvasekar, a parent by himself, was discovered dead. Selvasekar hanged himself in his home, according to the police, unable to handle the grief of the death of his son.
M K Stalin, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, stated that he was at a loss for words to comfort the family. My sincere sympathies are sent on the passing of the pupil Jagatheeswaran and his father Selvasekhar (who is also believed to have committed himself). Let their demises be the final sacrifices made to NEET, Stalin proclaimed in a proclamation.Stalin also predicted that the NEET hurdles would crumble in a matter of months if a political shift had occurred.
“I make the appeal that under no circumstances should a student ever decide to end their own lives. The NEET, a roadblock to your development, will be eliminated. According to Stalin’s comment, the state government is actively working on the legal effort in this direction.
Over 20 applicants are said to have committed suicide, according to Hindustan Times, since the state made NEET mandatory in response to an apex court ruling.
