“Separate nation” row: DK Shivakumar says there won’t be a huge budget announcement for the south

According to DK Shivakumar, Karnataka hasn’t been getting a lot of money from the federal government. In response to Congress MP DK Suresh’s contentious “separate nation” statement on Thursday, Karnataka deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar stated that the BJP-led government has not made any major announcements for the southern states of India. He asserted that the “Hindi-belt” states are off limits to the government.”Any leader, even DK Suresh, has mentioned the suffering in South India… There needs to be equilibrium. The whole nation is one… You need to consider more than just the Hindi belt. There is not an equitable allocation of funds in this budget, Sivakumar was reported by news agency ANI to have stated.

Shivakumar asserted that despite making a sizable contribution to the national coffers, Karnataka hasn’t been getting much money from the federal government. “Karnataka has been contributing significantly to the Center’s revenue… There has been no significant announcement for all of South India. We believe we have been misled. But the nation as a whole is one. We are Native Americans. India ought to unite. Demands based on area are not relevant,” he continued.

DK Suresh, a Congress MP from Bengaluru, stated that the southern states had been treated unfairly after the federal government presented the Interim Budget to the legislature.

This is the budget for the election. Names are the only changes made in the interim budget. They have introduced a few Hindi and Sanskrit scheme names. States in South India are not receiving their fair share of direct taxes and GST from the Central government. The states of South India are subject to injustice. “North Indian states are receiving the money collected from southern states,” he asserted.
