In relation to the sexual assault case, police detained a senior resident physician in the cardiology department at SCB Medical College and Hospital. Dilbag Singh, a physician who has worked in the cardiology department for the past two years, has been recognized as the accused physician. Following a complaint from the victim patients’ relatives, the accused doctor was taken into custody by Mangalabag police.
A three-person committee was formed by the Health Department to look into the doctor’s alleged sexual assault in the meantime. A statement from the Health Department said that the investigation will be conducted by a committee made up of Prof. (Dr.) Santosh Kumar Mishra, DMET, Odisha; Prof. (Dr.) Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra, Superintendent, SCBMCH, Cuttack; Dean & Principal, SCB Medical College, Cuttack; and Prof. (Dr.) Roma Rattan, Joint DMET, Odisha.
According to the notification, the committee would look into the claims and advise the government on what steps to take. Notably, under the guise of performing an examination, the accused physician is accused of sexually abusing two female patients in the ECG room.
