Prithviraj Harichandan, the minister of works, and Odisha chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi held a meeting at Bharat Mandpam, New Delhi, to discuss the projects being carried out by the National Highways Authority (NHAI). Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, presided over the meeting. Attending the meeting were the Principal Secretary for Works, the Chief Secretary of Odisha, and the ACS Chief of Revenue and Disaster Management.
It was decided during this meeting to expedite the ongoing projects in consultation with the Odisha government. Since building roads is the Odisha government’s top priority, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has promised that all assistance will be given and issues like acquiring land and finding building supplies will be resolved quickly.
(a)Required projects proposed by the CM:
- Bhubaneswar – Puri Length: 60 km
6 lanes along with service road with an estimated cost of Rs.1800 crore.
- Chandikhol – Barbil
Length – 2000 km
Estimated cost is Rs.10,000 Crores along with Service Road
- Khurda-Nyagarh (NH-57) length -54 km 4-lane with service road in the built-up area with an estimated cost of Rs 1100 crore.
- Kesinga-Junagarh (National Highway-26)
Length – 46 km
4-lane with an estimated cost of Rs. 1000 crores
All the four projects worth Rs.15 lakh crore were agreed upon and it was decided to prepare DPR for these projects.
(b) Rs.2500 crore has already been sanctioned for two laning of Koraput-Podomari project (National Highway-326) (246 km).
(c) Rs.500 crore has been disbursed this year under the Central Roads and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF). Moreover, funds can also be redeemed after usage.
(d) Similarly, there is a provision of Rs.250 crore under Setu Bandhan Yojana for Odisha state
(e) A DPR of Rs 3400 crore will be submitted for the improvement of national highways in Odisha.
Union Minister, Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi discussed these projects worth Rs 21,650 crore.
(f) Similarly, on the request of the Chief Minister, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has agreed to further study the feasibility of the following proposals:-
*Spine of Odisha (Atal Expressway) Motu – Tiringi (969 km) passes through 9 districts with estimated project cost. West-East connectivity corridor of Rs.15 lakh crore
- a) Jharsuguda-Baleswar (383 km) approximately Rs 7,500 crore
- b) Nuapada – Astarang (491 km) approximately Rs 9500 crore
- c) Brindababahal – Gopalpur (357 km) approximately Rs 6,800 crores
- d) Sambalpur – Satbhaya (404 km) approximately Rs.5477 crores
* Grand Ring Road
- a) Brahmapur – Jaipur (287 km) around Rs.9000 crore
- b) Jaipur – Rourkela (638 km) approximately Rs.2500 crores
- c) Rourkela-Jaleshwar (391 km) approximately Rs.22 billion
- d) Jaleswar – Brahampur (442 km on National Highway-16)
