In the State Assembly on Wednesday, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra said that 9,91,929 people have filed for ration cards in Odisha. In response to a question from Dabugam Manohar Randhari, a BJD MLA, the Minister of Food Supplies stated that field verification of the applications received is presently in progress. In an effort to increase transparency, he stated that efforts are being made to initiate Aadhar-based electronic KYC using the data submitted by each beneficiary.
After verification is finished, the procedure of issuing new ration cards to qualified families will begin, he continued. The Minister has also disclosed that 10,02,144 people receive rice under the State Food Security Scheme and 3,25,93,875 people receive it under the National Food Security Act in the State.
