In the state capital, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started a ground-breaking initiative to carry out a thorough dog census. The goal of this large-scale project is to sterilize and count both stray and pet dogs. The last week of February is when the BMC plans to start the census. The civic organization will work with a business chosen through a bidding process to carry out the census. Under the direction of the Zonal Deputy Commissioner, a group of sanitation department staff will support the selected business in each of the Municipal Corporation’s three zones.
The census will include separate counts in the hospital and school regions in addition to ward-level counting in every ward. To guarantee precise tracking, the BMC intends to assign a unique emblem to each dog. The online registration and counting of pet dogs will come after the census of stray dogs. Within the next one to one and a half years, the entire procedure should be finished.
