Odisha To Start Semiconductor Production By December

By December of this year, Odisha would be among the semiconductor-producing areas, the state administration said Monday. In response to a question in the State Assembly, Electronics and IT Minister Mukesh Mahaling said that RIR Power Electronics has been given 20,000 square feet at EMC Park in Infovalley, Bhubaneswar, to set up a semiconductor manufacturing facility.

“We expect production to commence by the end of December,” Mahaling stated, marking a significant step in Odisha’s industrial growth.

The Minister also highlighted collaborations with Singapore-based companies, with several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed to bolster the state’s semiconductor ecosystem. Beyond this, Mahaling noted that Odisha has become a hub for IT innovation, hosting approximately 300 IT firms between 1997 and 2024. To further enhance its technological infrastructure, the government has earmarked Rs. 100 crore in its budget to develop eight new Software Technology Parks of India (STPIs). Additionally, plans are underway to establish data centers in Keonjhar and Koraput districts.

Additionally, Mahaling declared that a Cable Landing Station (CLS) project had begun in Puri, and that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) was already being prepared. By connecting underwater fiber optic cables to terrestrial networks, this coastal infrastructure will improve internet connection and international telecommunications.
