Odisha Eyes 2G Ethanol To Boost Rural Economy, Reduce Pollution

By encouraging the usage of 2G ethanol, the Odisha government is making a big step toward pollution reduction and environmental preservation. Midwest Energy Company gave a presentation at Lok Seva Bhawan, proposing to establish an ethanol factory in Odisha and promote its usage as fuel. Prabhakar Reddy, a corporate representative, talked about the possibility of employing ethanol-blended gasoline in boats that operate in Chilika Lake. Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo stated his confidence that Odisha will strive to meet the Central Government’s aim of 5% ethanol in diesel by 2030, which is in line with this plan.

Crop chaff, like paddy straw, which is frequently burned and pollutes the environment, will be used to make ethanol. To give farmers a another revenue stream, the firm intends to buy their agricultural wastes. In addition to lowering pollutants, this project will boost the local economy, create indirect job possibilities for farmers, and lessen physical work. Crop wastes from a variety of crops, such as sugarcane, maize, and bajra, might be used in this project to create ethanol. Senior officials, including Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo, Law and Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, and Industries Minister Sampada Chandra Swain, attended the presentation. The Odisha government is eager to promote this project.

Principal Secretary of Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment Department Dr Arabinda Kumar Padhee, Principal Secretary of Energy Department Vishal Deb, Tourism Commissioner and Secretary Balwant Singh, MD EPCL Bhupendra Singh Punia were also present.
