“Sonam Raghuvanshi Claims Innocence: ‘I Was Kidnapped, Didn’t Kill My Husband,’ She Tells Authorities in Raja Raghuvanshi Case”

In a shocking turn of events, Sonam Raghuvanshi, accused of orchestrating the brutal murder of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon, was arrested from a dhaba on the Varanasi-Ghazipur highway on Monday. Originally from Indore, Sonam had allegedly staged her own disappearance after Raja’s body was found in Meghalaya’s scenic Sohra region.

According to Meghalaya DGP I Nongrang, Sonam had hired three contract killers – Raj Singh Kushwaha (21), Akash Rajput (19), and Vishal Singh Chauhan (22) – to execute the murder. All three were arrested in coordinated overnight raids across Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The first arrest was made in Lalitpur, while the other two suspects were nabbed in Indore.

Raja and Sonam were married on May 11 and had travelled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon. They went missing on May 23, just hours after checking out from a homestay in Nongriat village. Raja’s body was discovered 20 km away, and his family identified him through a distinctive tattoo on his right hand. Items recovered at the scene included a woman’s white shirt, a medicine strip, a mobile phone’s damaged LCD screen, and a smartwatch.

Following the arrest of the assailants, Sonam surrendered at Nandganj police station in Ghazipur. The case has shocked the nation, spanning a trail of deceit, betrayal, and violence across three states.
