In a formal announcement released by the Raj Bhavan on Friday, Prof. Jagneshwar Dandapat was reappointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Utkal University. Until a new Vice-Chancellor is chosen, he will remain in his position.
On July 22, the Orissa High Court issued a decision rescinding Prof. Dandapat’s previous appointment, citing non-compliance with the old University Act’s requirements. But the Chancellor has put him back in the position following a recent State Cabinet change to the University Act.
The reappointment clarifies the leadership of the institution, which had been in a state of uncertainty after the court’s ruling. The legal grounds for contesting the prior appointment have been successfully addressed by the Act modification.
