Illegal Cricket Betting Racket Exposed in Vikaspuri; Two Arrested by Delhi Police

The Special Staff of Delhi Police’s West District on Saturday busted a cricket betting racket operating out of Vikaspuri following specific and credible intelligence inputs. Acting on the information, a team conducted discreet surveillance near Dussehra Ground, Vikaspuri, before raiding a flat on the second floor of Janta Flats, Budhela Village, after completing all legal formalities.

Inside the premises, two men — identified as Gaurav and Himanshu — were caught red-handed placing bets on an Australian Women’s Cricket League match through the ‘Plus Project 2025’ application on a laptop. The police seized two LED screens, six mobile phones, a laptop, and a recorder used for the betting activities.

A case under Sections 3, 4, 9, and 55 of the Delhi Public Gambling Act has been registered at Vikaspuri police station. Further investigation into the network is underway.

This crackdown comes months after a similar operation in April during the IPL 2025 season, when the Delhi Police Crime Branch dismantled a betting syndicate running out of Paharganj. Six individuals were arrested, and several electronic devices and documents were recovered.

In that case, the accused were allegedly placing bets on the IPL match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans on April 6. The syndicate reportedly operated offline, accepting bets over phone calls and maintaining records using the Betting Assistant app, i-book, and handwritten notepads. Bettors would call in predictions, with live match rates (bhaav) updated in real time.
