Rashmi Ranjan Mohapatra: Engineering Impact Beyond the Boardroom

In an era where leadership is often measured by quarterly numbers, Rashmi Ranjan Mohapatra stands out for a far more enduring metric—impact. With over three decades of experience across industries ranging from industrial gases and welding to EV charging, advanced manufacturing, and sustainability-driven technologies, his career reflects a rare blend of business acumen, social responsibility, and future-focused thinking. Currently serving as the CEO of the World Skill Centre, Bhubaneswar, Mohapatra is shaping the next generation of skilled professionals by aligning global industry standards with India’s emerging workforce needs.

Business Head at Parry Enterprises India Ltd., a subsidiary of the Rs1 lakh crore Murugappa Group, Mohapatra oversees diverse verticals including greenhouse nets, water and membrane technologies, travel services, and dairy products. His leadership is marked not only by scale but by intent—aligning growth with innovation, sustainability, and human capital development.

Before this role, he spent over a decade as Managing Director of Kemppi South East Asia & India and held strategic leadership positions at organisations such as BOC Gases (now Linde), Ador Welding, and Roots Multiclean. Across these roles, he consistently championed technology-led transformation, particularly in welding automation, IIOT, and R&D-driven manufacturing—areas critical to strengthening India’s industrial competitiveness.

Sustainability remains central to Mohapatra’s vision. He has pioneered the indigenous manufacturing of GOSEP membranes in collaboration with Singapore under the Make in India initiative, with a long-term goal of steering India toward carbon neutrality—and even carbon negativity. This focus on environmentally responsible innovation underscores his belief that industrial progress and ecological responsibility must go hand in hand.

Beyond industry, he actively bridges academia and enterprise as an advisor and board member at institutions such as NIT Trichy, OP Jindal University, and the School of Management, Puducherry. He also mentors startups across emerging domains including drones, space technology, and innovation hubs, nurturing the next generation of Indian entrepreneurs.
A TEDx speaker and sought-after keynote speaker, Rashmi Ranjan Mohapatra’s contributions have earned him numerous accolades, including “Eminent Engineering Personality” by the Institution of Engineers (India) and recognition among the Top 23 Manufacturers by Machine Maker. Yet, beyond awards and titles, his legacy lies in building systems—of skills, sustainability, and inclusive growth—that will outlast individual tenures.

In every sense, Mohapatra represents a modern Indian leader: technically grounded, socially conscious, and relentlessly future-oriented.

What truly distinguishes Mohapatra, however, is his deep commitment to skill development and workforce dignity. As Chairman of the Welding Cluster at the Indian Institute of Welding and a National Core Committee Member of the National Skill Development Council (FICCI), he has been instrumental in shaping India’s skilling ecosystem. One of his most impactful initiatives—the Best Female Welder Competition—has gained international recognition and contributed to the rise of nearly 60,000 female welders in India today, redefining gender roles in core manufacturing sectors.
His efforts extend further through the establishment of 35 Centres of Excellence for skill development, impacting over one lakh students. Equally notable is his role in introducing cleaning machines in India, a move aimed at restoring dignity to sanitation work and uplifting the status of sweepers—an often overlooked but vital workforce.
