Eugene, USA, August 11, 2026: India has finished its World Athletics U20 Championships campaign with three medals — two silver and one bronze, matching the country’s medal haul from the 2021 and 2022 editions.

The campaign began with Ashish Yadav winning silver in the men’s javelin throw. His best effort of 74.09 metres made him only the second Indian after Neeraj Chopra to win a men’s javelin medal at the World U20 Championships.

India’s second silver came from Basant Kumar Meghwal in the men’s high jump, while Shahnavaz Khan secured bronze in the men’s long jump.

India’s final day saw Pooja Singh finish seventh in the women’s high jump final, clearing 1.84m, while the women’s 4x400m relay team finished ninth.

Despite those results, India’s three-medal haul is significant. Between 2002 and 2018, India won only four medals across the World U20 Championships. The latest performance therefore underlines the growing depth of India’s young athletics talent.

India’s medal tally:

  • 🥈 Ashish Yadav — Men’s Javelin Throw
  • 🥈 Basant Kumar Meghwal — Men’s High Jump
  • 🥉 Shahnavaz Khan — Men’s Long Jump
