From a 15-Year-Old Business Enthusiast to the Visionary Behind Birch Bhubaneswar, the Young Director Navigates Real Estate Dynamics, Culinary Logistics, and Strategic Pan-India Expansion
Early Business Acumen and Corporate Foundations
Chirag Batra’s foray into hospitality is anchored in a lifelong entrepreneurial drive nurtured within a business family. Developing a keen interest in commercial ventures by the age of 15, he spent his formative years assisting his father while experimenting with his own early business concepts. After completing his schooling in Bhubaneswar, Batra pursued higher education across prominent academic hubs—studying at KIIT in Bhubaneswar and spending a year in Bangalore before returning to complete his degree at KIIT. On August 11, 2023, Batra formalized his corporate trajectory by establishing Meticulous Leisures and Hospitality Private Limited as Director (DIN 10276968), partnering alongside Managing Director Jai Batra to build a structured foundation for large-scale hospitality ventures.
Identifying the Bhubaneswar Gap and Strategic Site Selection
Batra’s flagship venture, Birch Bhubaneswar, emerged from his observation of a significant void in Odisha’s capital for high-end, national-caliber restro-bar experiences. Rather than opening in overcrowded nightlife hubs like core Patia or Pathragadia, Batra executed a calculated real estate maneuver by selecting Raghunathpur. Recognizing Raghunathpur as the emerging “sweet spot” connecting Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, he positioned Birch just five minutes from KIIT and Patia, and a ten-minute drive from Cuttack. This geographical positioning allowed the outlet to capture commuters entering from Cuttack as their first destination stop, while instantly anchoring itself to an immediate residential catchment of 3,000 existing apartments and 2,000 upcoming residential units.
Architectural Vision, Sourcing, and Supply Chain Execution
To realize his vision of a metropolitan glasshouse venue, Batra commissioned Delhi-based architect Abhigyan, a veteran who has designed over 120 hospitality venues across India. The resulting rooftop design features collapsible glass walls and transparent ceilings that flood the space with daylight while allowing indoor air-conditioned areas to merge seamlessly with open-air party terraces. Rejecting imported overseas decor, Batra prioritized domestic craftsmanship, sourcing custom furniture partially handmade in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, and procuring specialized crockery, cutlery, and glassware directly from Delhi. Following construction that began in late 2023, Birch officially opened its doors in early 2025 on the 6th floor of Royal Arcade.
Dual-Concept Operations and High-Speed Culinary Management
Under Batra’s operational leadership, Birch functions as a versatile venue that transitions from a relaxed fine-dining restaurant during the day into a high-energy restro-bar after 8:00 PM on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. To support this dual identity, Batra built a multicuisine kitchen serving North Indian, Chinese, Asian, Italian, and Continental fare—including specialized sushi, baos, and dim sums. He recruited experienced culinary talent from regional food centers in Uttarakhand, Delhi, and Bombay. To handle peak weekend rushes exceeding 300 guests, Batra instituted a rigorous 10-minute turnaround time per dish, balancing rapid service with high-volume party demand. This operational model currently attracts an average monthly footfall of 4,000 guests and maintains a 4.2 out of 5 Google rating across 1,300+ reviews.
Long-Term Economic Vision and National Speakeasy Ambitions
Looking beyond his flagship location, Batra projects that Bhubaneswar will emerge as the corporate capital of Eastern India over the next 5 to 10 years, overtaking rival regional hubs due to its superior connectivity and infrastructure. While maintaining a single flagship Birch venue in Bhubaneswar to preserve brand exclusivity.
