Indian professional sprinter and current national champion in the women’s 100 metres event, Dutee Chand suffered a minor jolt while practising to polish skills to qualify for the 2021 Olympic Games as an indoor track event in Almaty, Kazakhstan, was cancelled at the eleventh hour this month.
Dutee Chand was aiming for the 2021 season of Olympic Games with a 60m indoor competition on 29th January but last minute it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic which made her reschedule her training for the domestic competitions which starts from 18th February in Patiala.
As per the IANS report, Dutee Chand stated that she couldn’t compete in other indoor meets in Europe due to seven days quarantine guideline for athletes from India. She will be a sort of warm-up event ahead of the Federation Cup in March.
She further stated that on paper these look super easy but it’s hard to improve the fraction of seconds and after March she will see the situation if it gets better in Europe and then she will try to figure out whether she will able to compete there or not.
Dutee had clinched bronze in the 60m dash with a time of 7.22 seconds at the 2016 Asian Indoor event and on the same year, she also reached the semi-finals of the World Indoor Championships.
As per the World Athletics qualification rules, the top 50 ranked athletes would get berths in the Olympics in case they are not able to meet the qualification time.
