The state government is planning to bring uniform research guidelines for state public universities as the aim is to provide better service to research scholars and maintain the quality of research works. And it will be framed after a discussion with the universities.
According to the reports, the Odisha State Higher Education Council (OSHEC) will take the lead to frame the guidelines after holding meetings with the university vice-chancellors. As per a council member statement, it stated that some universities take a lot of time for the registration of students for PhD programmes. Some candidates have completed their PhD course works, but they do not get respective guides to commence their research work. The institutions also take several months to approve and award the PhD degree after submission of their theses and these problems should be solved by setting a timeline for these services.
The guideline will address this issue as the universities will set a deadline for registration of students for PhD programmes and approval of the thesis in a time-bound manner to award degrees to scholars without much delay.
