In a very tragic incident, a woman was killed by an elephant in Mayurbhanj area. The wild elephant attacked the woman who was sleeping in her house and gave her serious injuries. The woman was attacked by the elephant at Khadikoshal village under Betnoti forest range in Mayurbhanj late on Friday night.
The woman has been identified as Sumitra Dehury, wife of Sarbeswar Dehury from the Khadikoshal village. The woman was apparently sleeping when the elephant broke into her house looking for food.
Officials said that elephants have been taking a lot of lives and damaging properties in the village for years. The officials of the forest department have initiated an investigation into the matter.
