Just a week ago, there were worrying signs of COVID third wave in India, as the country clocked over 10000 cases on the eve of the new year. However, just within a week, cases of COVID positive on a daily basis have manifold 10 times. In the last 24 hours as per the reports from the health department, India witnessed 1 Lakh and 17 Thousand New COVID positive patients which is 28 per cent more than the previous daily record of 98000.
Since June last year, this is the first time India has clocked over 1 lakh cases. The last time India had over 1 lakh positive cases was on June 14 with 1.14 lakh daily cases. Thereby, India is officially on the third wave of the COVID virus. Moreover, in the last 24 hours with 377 new cases, India’s Omicron tally has now passed 3000 and stands at 3007.
Maharashtra, one of the worst-hit states by the Covid pandemic, added 36,265 today. Of these, 20,181 were reported in Mumbai alone. Delhi reported over 15,000 cases of coronavirus in 24 hours – the highest since May 8. The national capital’s daily cases jumped a whopping 41.5 per cent in a day as 15,097 infections were detected in the city.
