Draupadi Murmu has been making headlines on all news channels in India ever since she has been elected by the Bhartiya Janata Party as the presidential candidate for the upcoming presidential election. Not only, she can be the first woman president of India, but if she wins the election, she can also be the first president who comes from a tribal background.
Moreover, it is a proud moment for Odia people and Odisha as Draupadi Murmu is a resident of Odisha. Thereby, the honorable chief minister of Odisha, Shri Naveen Patnaik has requested all the MLAs of Odisha to support Draupadi Murmu as the next president of India.
In a tweet, the Odisha CM stated:
Appeal to all the members of Odisha Legislative Assembly, cutting across party lines, to extend unanimous support to elect the daughter of #Odisha – Smt #DraupadiMurmu to the country’s highest office.
The name of Murmu, the former Jharkhand Governor and ex-Odisha Minister was announced by the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) as its candidate for the upcoming Presidential polls.
Murmu will be contesting against Opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha. Consequent to the expiry of the term of President Ram Nath Kovind, an election poll to fill in the office is scheduled to be held on July 18 and the counting of votes will take place on 21st July.
