India won 7 medals in Tokyo 2020, including 1 gold, 2 silver, and 4 bronze, which, despite appearing to be “less,” is the most medals the nation has received since 1900.As India sent the largest Olympic delegation it had ever sent to Tokyo in 2020, there were a lot of hopes and expectations. The fact that this was the strongest #TeamIndia to date and no wonder they did not disappoint was taken into consideration when sending Indian athletes who have garnered attention over the past five years and placed on the podium at all world championships. The going got tougher for India, though, as shooters, female wrestlers, table tennis players, and archers all came up empty, despite the fact that some of them had previously held the world number one position.

Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu’s silver medal victory at Tokyo marked the beginning of India’s medal surge. PV Sindhu, a gold medalist in badminton, added a bronze, and boxer Lovlina Borgohain also took home a bronze. The Indian men’s hockey team won the bronze medal, bringing them back to the Olympic podium after a 41-year absence, and wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya took home the silver. He was joined by the bronze-winning wrestler Bajrang Punia, and let’s not forget Neeraj Chopra, who brought an end to India’s Olympic campaign by singing the National Anthem in Tokyo while holding a gold medal.

There were many other close calls, such as Aditi Ashok, who nearly won but lost at the fourth position due to the unfavourable golf conditions on day 15, and the women’s field hockey team, who placed fourth on the table despite losing in the semifinals.
Finally, the citizens of the nation came out in unison to support the athletes representing India despite knowing it wasn’t cricket, so it wasn’t just the athletes’ incredible performance that kept them going.
