Cyclone Sitrang causes damage in different parts of Assam

As a result of Cyclone Sitrang ruining the Diwali celebrations around the state, Assam has been pummeled by intense rain. The Kamrup district has received significant rain, and Guwahati experienced waterlogging in various locations of the city on Tuesday. The city’s Maligaon, Santipur, Fatashil Ambari, Hatigaon, and Sijubari sectors were all underwater as a result of the nonstop rain. In Guwahati, individuals have experienced difficulties moving from one location to another. However, because Tuesday was a holiday designated by the state government in honour of Diwali, it has provided some relief to those who commute every day.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday morning, a sizable tree fell on the busy Guwahati-Shillong route at Khanapara due to strong winds and heavy rain. The District Disaster Management Authority staff, on the other hand, arrived quickly, cut down the tree, and cleaned the road within a few hours.

For the last two days, Assam’s other districts have also seen intense rains. In the Nagaon district, some homes have suffered damage as a result of strong winds. The cyclonic storm Sitarang on Monday night uprooted several trees and power poles around the area, according to an official.

The central Assam communities of Kaliabor, Bamuni, Sakmuthia tea plantations, and Boraligaon have also reported damages to a number of homes. The cyclone caused infrastructure damage in many areas of the state. However, Assam has not yet received any reports of casualties.

According to the state disaster management agency, storm Sitarang had an overall impact on 83 communities. Due to this cyclonic storm, at least 162 homes suffered partial or complete damage, and 325.501 hectares of crop were also lost.
