AAP Planning To Regularise 12,000 Contract Staff In MCD

Party leader and former Chief Minister Atishi said on Sunday that the ruling AAP is getting ready to regularize 12,000 contract workers of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi by supporting a motion in the municipal House’s next session on February 25. The BJP retaliated, claiming that Atishi is spreading false information because no request to regularize the staff has been submitted to the MCD Secretary’s office for the municipal House’s February 25 meeting. “This would be a historic decision wherein such a large number of contract workers including sanitation workers, gardeners, teachers, junior engineers, and malaria breeding checkers,” Atishi stated during a news conference with Mayor Mahesh Kumar Khichi.

The declaration from the AAP coincides with an upcoming demonstration of power in the MCD, as 12 civic agency seats became vacant as a result of council members being elected to the Delhi Assembly and Parliament. Delhi BJP President Virender Sachdeva recently hinted at the likelihood of the opposition gaining a majority following this realignment when he stated that there was a high likelihood of Delhi receiving a “Triple engine” government, with the MCD serving as the third engine in addition to the Delhi and Union governments. According to BJP leaders, the party has the backing of the council members in the 250-member civic body, which has 12 open seats.

According to her, the AAP has been dedicated to regularizing contract workers and has so far offered 4,500 sanitation workers permanent positions. The AAP has chosen to carry out its pledge to make temporary staff permanent, which it made when it ran for office in the municipal elections. She emphasized the AAP’s concern for contract workers by pointing out that the party has been often assigning contract teachers to permanent positions in Punjab as well. Additionally, Mayor Khichi emphasized how the AAP has a history of keeping its word.

Atishi was chosen earlier in the day by the 22 AAP lawmakers to represent the party in the Legislative Assembly. The AAP leader, who is expected to be elected the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, responded, “I was expecting that the BJP would fulfil its promises without offering excuses for irritants in walking the walk,” in response to the BJP leaders’ claims that the AAP-led Delhi government has left the coffers empty. When the AAP administration was created in 2015, Delhi’s budget expenditure was Rs 30,000 crore. “I challenge the BJP to tell me about even a single government in BJP-ruled states that has recorded such a remarkable feat,” she said, adding that it has climbed to Rs 77,000 crore over the last ten years, more than 2.5 times.
