ECoR stepped up monitoring of sanitation and drinking water quality at railway stations and colonies in an effort to provide safe and hygienic facilities for passengers and railway employees. ECoR carried out thorough water quality checks across 175 railway stations and 160 railway colonies as part of a special 15-day fortnight drive that ran from August 18 to September 3, 2026, and was followed by continuous monitoring. The campaign and following monitoring included 288 bacteriological tests and 1,037 residual chlorine tests.
All three ECoR districts—Khurda Road, Sambalpur, and Rayagada—were included in the expedition. During the monitoring, seven bacteriological samples were first found to be non-compliant. Mandatory retesting was done after prompt remedial action was implemented. It was afterwards determined that all seven samples adhere to the established procedures. In addition to regularly cleaning station amenities, water tanks, and coolers, ECoR also conducts frequent and unanticipated water quality tests. Regularly supervised sanitation drives that include station grounds, restrooms, toilets, and drains are also being performed every day.
