Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, urged the Centre on Wednesday to include images of Lord Ganesha and goddess Lakshmi on new currency notes in an effort to boost tourism “get the economy moving again.”
Lamenting the state of the Indian economy, Kejriwal told a press conference that “we need a lot of efforts to get our economy back on track, but we also need the blessings of our gods and goddesses.”
“On Indian currency notes, there is a picture of Gandhi Ji on one side…it should stay that way…if we put a picture of Ganesha Ji and Lakshmi Ji on the other side, the entire country will receive their blessings.
Using Indonesia as an example, he urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take similar steps in India. “Indonesia is a Muslim nation.” “There are 85% Muslims and only 2% Hindus, but the currency features a picture of Shri Ganesh Ji,” he explained.
While Lord Ganesha is widely revered as a remover of obstacles and a bringer of good fortune, Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth, fortune, power, beauty, fertility, and prosperity.
He also stated that the AAP was fully prepared for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections and that the people of the national capital would vote against the BJP.
Sisodia, echoing Kejriwal’s demand, tweeted, “Maa Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha are prosperity deities. With their blessings, the country will prosper, advance, and eventually become number one. Including images of Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Lakshmi, and Lord Ganesha on Indian currency will be beneficial to the entire country.”
