Blast Outside Punjab BJP Leader Manoranjan Kalia’s Jalandhar Residence, Investigation Underway

A blast occurred outside the residence of senior Punjab BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia in Jalandhar during the early hours of Tuesday, triggering a major security response. According to reports from news agency ANI, the explosion took place around 1 am. Fortunately, Kalia and his family are safe.

Speaking about the incident, Kalia said he was asleep at the time and initially mistook the sound for thunder. “There was a blast at around 1 am. I was sleeping and thought it was thunder. Later, I was informed that an explosion had taken place outside my home. I then sent my gunman to the police station,” he said, adding that police are reviewing CCTV footage and forensic teams have begun collecting evidence from the site.

Soon after the incident, police teams rushed to the location and secured the area. Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner of Police Manpreet Singh confirmed that forensic experts are actively examining the evidence to determine the nature of the blast.

Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur also visited the site. “Around 1 am, we received information about a blast. Our teams immediately reached the spot and initiated an investigation. The forensic team is checking whether this was a grenade attack or caused by some other explosive device,” she stated.

This incident comes amid a worrying pattern of similar attacks in Punjab. Just last month, four individuals were arrested in connection with a grenade attack on the home of a YouTuber in Jalandhar. In another case, unidentified masked assailants hurled explosives near Thakur Dwara Temple in Amritsar’s Khandwala area, damaging the structure but causing no injuries.

Between November 2024 and February 2025, Punjab has witnessed at least 10 blasts targeting police facilities, raising concerns about public safety and law enforcement preparedness.
