Central Team Starts ‘Yaas’ Damage Assessment & Visits Cyclone Hit Areas In Odisha

For the on-the-spot assessment of damages caused by the severe cyclone ‘Yaas’, an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) reached Odisha to began the field trips to the affected areas.

According to the report, the assessment to visit the affected areas due to the cyclone ‘Yass’ will continue till June 8 and the team is led by Joint secretary Sunil Kumar Bansal, Ministry of Home Affairs who will be visiting various affected areas in four districts-Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhan and Kendrapara.

The report further added that the team which includes four Odia officers will also hold discussion with the local administration and affected people during the assessment of damages.

Earlier the Odisha government had pegged the losses caused by the cyclone at Rs 610 crore. Of this, Rs 520 crore is the loss to government infrastructure and Rs 90 crore is damage to private property.

The report further stated that the central panel will be divided into two sub-teams and each unit will visit two districts in the next two days. Before leaving for New Delhi, the team members will hold a meeting with Chief Secretary S C Mohapatra and Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) PK Jena to discuss the damage assessment.

The cyclone ‘Yaas’ had hit the northern coast in Odisha on May 26 and affected many areas in the state.
