CJI SA Bobde recommends justice NV Ramana as successor

NV Ramana, a senior Supreme Court judge, could be the country’s next chief justice. SA Bobde, now the Chief Justice, has nominated NB Ramana as his successor. SA Bobde will retire on April 23.

NB Ramana was appointed as a Supreme Court judge on February 2, 2017. His term is less than two years away. He will retire on August 28, 2021. He began practicing law on February 10, 1983. Chandrababu Naidu was the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Justice NB Ramana was the Additional Advocate General of the Andhra Pradesh Government.

NB Ramana, from a farming family, holds a bachelor’s degree in science and law. He then started legal practice in the Andhra Pradesh High Court, the Central Administrative Tribunal and the Supreme Court. He served as a panel councilor for the state government agency. On June 28, 2000, he was appointed as a permanent judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. From March 13 to May 20, 2013, he was the Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

He was promoted on September 2, 2013. He was later appointed Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. He was appointed a Supreme Court judge on February 14, 2017. He is currently a senior judge in the Supreme Court. The money is coming after Bobade among the senior judges.

The Supreme Court has 34 judges (including the Chief Justice. The court currently has 30 judges. Because no one has been appointed since Justice Gogoi, Justice Gupta, Justice Vanumati and Justice Mishra were appointed. Justice Gogoi was appointed in 2014).
