BHUBANESWAR: In a major step towards women’s empowerment, the Odisha government under Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday deposited ₹5,000 each into the bank accounts of around 35 lakh women. This marks the second phase of the first installment disbursement under the state’s ambitious *Subhadra Yojana*. The event, held at the Chhau Ground in Baripada, was led by Chief Minister Majhi, with Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida and other dignitaries in attendance.
The Subhadra Yojana, a flagship initiative promised in the BJP’s *Sankalp Patra* (election manifesto), aims to empower women across the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the scheme in Bhubaneswar on his birthday, September 17 this year. At the launch, around 25 lakh women received ₹5,000 in their bank accounts.
Under the scheme, beneficiaries will receive ₹10,000 annually, divided into two installments of ₹5,000 each—one on Rakhi Purnima and the other on International Women’s Day (March 8)—for five years.
The second phase targeted women who missed out on the first phase due to various reasons. Those who applied by October 7 were included in this disbursement, ensuring that all eligible women received their entitlement.
