Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed deep concern on Monday about the trapped laborers, including five from the state, inside an under-construction tunnel that collapsed in Uttarakhand.
“Deeply concerned to know that several workers including workers from Odisha have been trapped following the collapse of an under-construction tunnel in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. Praying for the safe and speedy rescue of all the workers,” Patnaik stated on X, formerly Twitter.
According to a press release issued by Navayuga Engineering Company Ltd, the construction firm in charge of the project, five of the 40 victims are from various parts of Odisha. Bisweswar Nayak is from Mayurbhanj district, Tapan Mandal is from Khurda district, Raju Nayak is from Balasore district, Bhagwan Bhatra is from Nabarangpur, and Dhiren is from Sambalpur district.
On Sunday, a section of the tunnel, which is part of the Char Dham project and will connect Silkyara to Dangalgaon, collapsed. According to Uttarakhand ADG Law and Order AP Anshuman, no deaths have been reported, and the NDR, SDRF, and other rescue teams are working to free the trapped laborers. As many as 40 workers were trapped in the tunnel in Uttarkashi.
