Tamil Nadu and Puducherry have been placed under a red alert as Cyclone ‘Ditwah’ moves steadily toward the southeastern coastline, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The intensifying system is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts on Sunday.
Widespread showers have already impacted parts of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Puducherry as the cyclone tracks closer to the Tamil Nadu–Puducherry shoreline. The storm, which exited Sri Lanka on Saturday afternoon, has reportedly caused significant devastation in the island nation, leaving at least 153 people dead and 191 missing, Reuters reported.
With Cyclone Ditwah advancing toward the Indian mainland, authorities in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are on high alert. The IMD has also issued specific rainfall warnings for Chennai, Cuddalore, and surrounding regions.
For November 30, the weather agency has placed Chennai and several parts of Tamil Nadu under an orange alert, urging residents to remain cautious and follow official advisories as the situation develops.
