Bengaluru Student gets arrested for celebrating Pulwama Attack

Following the terrorist attack on CRPF members in Pulwama in 2019, a special NIA court in this city convicted a 22-year-old to five years of simple imprisonment and a punishment of Rs 25,000. The defendant made offensive comments on Facebook pages. Judge Gangadhara C. M. of the Additional City Civil & Sessions Judge issued the ruling (Special Judge for trial of NIA Cases).

Engineering student Faiz Rasheed, who was enrolled in his third semester, was detained because of Facebook posts he made on February 14 honouring the murder of 40 members of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) during an attack in Jammu and Kashmir.Sections 153A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 124A (sedition), and 201 (causing the disappearance of evidence of an offence) as well as Section 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act are all referenced in the chargesheet.

The terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) claimed responsibility for the explosion, which was apparently set off by an IED. This sparked indignation around the world. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) claims that Pakistan is where the plan originated.According to the court’s most recent ruling, the prosecution has provided evidence that the accused posted disparaging comments on his Facebook account in support of the Pulwama suicide attack on CRPF soldiers with the intent to incite animosity among various groups based on religion, which is detrimental to the maintenance of religious harmony and could disturb public peace.

The prosecution has “adduced evidence to show that the accused made the posts and comments with an intention to disrupt the sovereignty and integrity of India,” the court’s ruling stated. “The comments made by the accused clearly go to show that he was felt happy with the incident attack on CRPF Jawans at Pulwama by terrorists which caused disaffection against India.”
