Actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s tragic death by suicide shook the entire film industry, with his then-girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik facing severe accusations. However, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recently cleared them of all charges in its final report.
In a recent interview with The Indian Express, Rhea’s close friend Nidhi Hiranandani reflected on the immense emotional and personal toll the case had on the Chakraborty family. She emphasized that the damage they suffered “can’t be undone.”
Describing Sushant and Rhea’s relationship as loving and beautiful, Nidhi recalled how Rhea and her family barely had time to grieve. Instead, they were thrust into a relentless survival mode, processing their loss under intense public scrutiny.
Nidhi recounted Rhea’s harrowing experience with media trials, revealing how she returned home with bruises on her arms and face after being mobbed by journalists. Watching these events unfold on television, Nidhi sat helplessly beside Rhea’s mother, witnessing the profound distress the family endured.
Speaking about Showik, Nidhi shared that at just 23, he was preparing for his CAT exams and had secured admission to prestigious colleges. However, due to the ongoing case, he lost those opportunities and was denied entry to many institutions. His dreams were put on hold as he was forced to grow up overnight. Meanwhile, Rhea’s career also suffered, leaving her unable to work in films.
While the ordeal didn’t break Rhea’s spirit, Nidhi noted that she remains deeply affected. “She is a shattered person now,” she said, adding that the trauma and fear inflicted by their jail term will take a lifetime to heal.
