After reviewing the projects of the Odisha Power Generating Corporation (OPGC) and Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC), Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo instructed departmental authorities to hasten their execution. Strengthening the state’s electrical infrastructure is the project’s main goal. Singh Deo personally looked into the causes of the project delays during the evaluation and spoke with representatives of the central government to come up with remedies. Two 660 MW third-phase expansion projects, a 50 MW solar project, and a flue gas desulfurization project are among OPGC’s recent initiatives. Concerns around fly ash control and underutilized abandoned void mines were also covered.
The 63 MW Khadag Hydroelectric Project in Kandhamal district, the 500 MW Bali Mela Pumped Storage Project in Malkangiri, the 600 MW Upper Indravati Pumped Storage Project in Kalahandi, and the 600 MW Upper Kolab Pumped Storage Project in Koraput district are among the OHPC projects that were examined.
Principal Secretary Vishal Kumar Dev instructed departmental officers to directly monitor the ongoing projects. The meeting was attended by senior officials, including OPGC Managing Director Kedar Ranjan Pandu, OHPC Director Ashish Kumar Mohanty, and Additional Secretary, Energy Department, Nibedita Mishra, among others. The Deputy Chief Minister emphasised that these projects will prove to be milestones in strengthening the state’s electricity infrastructure. With these initiatives, the state aims to enhance its power generation capacity and improve the overall energy landscape.
