Feminine Power – An account on Reality

By Riddhima Sen

Jagaddhatri Puja is celebrated with great pomp throughout the state of West Bengal, specifically in the city of Chandan Nagore. Mother Jagaddhatri’s name literally means the mother of the world or universe (Jagat- earth, Dhatri- mother). Goddess Jagaddhatri emerged when the Gods were fighting for supremacy, questioning who was the most powerful amongst them all. When they were clueless about supremacy, or who is the ultimate power that holds power over fellow gods and human beings too. The worship of the mother goddess, signifies the power and stronghold women truly have. However, the worship of the goddess remains incomplete because of the status of women in the state.
Women are getting molested and hurt, and violated, on a regular basis. The R G Kar case and the recent Durgapur case are live reminder of the fact that women are just worshipped when they are made up of mud, but not when they are made of flesh and blood. Adi Shakti is the basis of life human itself. She gives us the power to steer through the directions in life, be it amidst storms or difficult times. Women are generally considered to be Goddess Lakshmi , but their fierce forms are often ignored .
