The thread that connects audiences to the films is the characters. The characters in films become ingrained in viewers’ memories when they can relate to them or find inspiration in them. Viewers are left with memories of both happy and sad events from their own lives thanks to the characters and films.
Therefore, we’re going to see some amazing female characters from Bollywood films from 2023 in this article.
Bulbul Johari, Made In Heaven-
As a strong-willed businesswoman and mother, Bulbul Johari from Made in Heaven exudes empowerment. Bulbul’s portrayal of working mothers goes beyond a superficial representation; her persona effectively captures the psychological conflict that arises in their minds as they juggle the demands of two demanding careers.
Bulbul exhibits her vulnerable side while simultaneously maintaining a firm hold on her conscience, regardless of the chaos occurring at home or at work. Bulbul’s character demonstrates a credible blending of the two worlds, in contrast to characters who are all or nothing—the clichés of the glorified “I don’t know how she does it all” or the working woman with a disastrous family life.
Being a survivor herself, she is devastated to learn of her son’s involvement in a sexual offense case and begins to wonder, “If only I was more present at home.” She is unable to give her all at work due to family strife, so she gradually loses focus.
We rarely see realistic depictions of working women who are imperfectly navigating their two separate personas in Indian movies or television shows, but Mona Singh’s poised performance as Bulbul Johari provided just that. Furthermore, her focus on financial autonomy as a driving force for advancement was merely the icing on the cake.
Debika Chatterjee, Mrs Debika Chatterjee
Mrs. Debika Chatterjee was portrayed by Rani Mukerji in the movie Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Norway. Many of us were affected by the character because it showed a mother who would stop at nothing to defend her kids. The movie followed Mrs. Chatterjee’s struggle to regain custody of her two children by fighting against Norwegian law and enforcing authorities. It also dealt with a woman’s struggle to defend herself and her kids from her husband’s injustice.’
Anina, Ghoomer
In 2023, Anian from the film Growmer is yet another outstanding female character. Anani, played by Saiyami Kher, is an athlete who suffers from a severe hand injury. Even with the injury, Anani succeeds in her endeavors. With the support of her coach, Padam Singh (Abhishek Bachchan), Anani never gives up on her goal of becoming a professional athlete. We can learn the same unwavering determination towards our goals from Anani’s character.
Rubai, Pathaan
In the film Pathaan, Deepika Padukone plays Rubai, a character who defies a lot of stereotypes. Padukone enters the screen as a woman acting in action sequences as Rubai. She is not the hero or the villain. But the average woman, with her flaws, who merely wants to exact revenge for her father’s passing. It is uncommon to see female characters in action scenes on screen, particularly in films starring men. But Padukone creates a new standard in Rubai.
Characters of the movie Dhak Dhak
How often do you witness women riding bullets? Characters in the multi-starred film Dhak Dhak smash numerous records both on and off screen. The film tells the story of four common women who drive to Khardung La Pass, the highest motorable pass in the world, against the wishes of their society. Every character, including Ratna Pathak Shah who defies her age, Dia Mirza who defies religious norms, and Sanjana Sanghi and Fatima Sana Sheikh who defy expectations as young women, inspires and inspires women to take up activism.
