Goa bans ” Public drinking”

Is Goa going to see a potential decline in the tourist ratio ?

If you are found to be “nuisance behaviour,” such as cooking and drinking in public, begging and illegal hawking, touting in tourist areas, driving a car on the beach, etc., you may face penalties ranging from fines to arrest. On Monday, the Goa government issued an order to stop a number of illicit tourism-related operations and directed the police to take action against offenders.

The Department stated that “such activities have damaged and deteriorated or are likely to damage or deteriorate the tourism potentiality of the tourist areas” while outlining numerous tourism-related activities currently taking place in the state.Desai has ordered the concerned individuals, businesses, associations, or any firms “not to perform any such activities, processes, or operations in tourist places with immediate effect” while outlawing these practises.

According to the official order the tourism agency published on Monday, miscreants who are discovered to be in violation of the rules would be penalised between 5000 and 50,000 depending on their offence. Under section 188 of the IPC, the authorities may also take legal action against the violators.

Deck beds, tables, and other things cannot be placed on any of the state’s beaches without having valid permits from the designated or competent authority. In an effort to prevent inappropriate behaviour from detracting from the visitor experience, the Goa tourism sector has in the past called for a “reinvention” of Goa’s tourist character. The Goa Assembly amended the Goa Tourist Places (Protection and Maintenance) Act in 2019, outlawing drinking in public areas as well as open cooking, littering, and shattering glass bottles.

Instead, visitors were to be encouraged to consume alcohol at beachside shacks or other businesses.
