Mohan Charan Majhi, the chief minister of Odisha, announced on Sunday that his administration will start the process of establishing the North Odisha Development Council (NODC) within two to three months. Speaking at a BJP-hosted event at Sundargarh’s Sanskruti Bhavan, the chief minister stated that the state government has already established a task group to begin the NODC establishment process. The task of continuing the job has been given to a minister.
He said, “Sundargarh district, which is currently under the Western Odisha Development Council (WODC), will be brought under the NODC. I personally want that Sundargarh to be included in the NODC. It will ensure rapid growth of the district.”
In 1998, the WODC was established by the state government and included the districts of Bargarh, Bolangir, Boudh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, and Sundargarh, as well as the Athmallik subdivision of Angul district. The money from WODC was used to build the medical schools at Bolangir, Kalahandi, and Sundargarh.
