IFS Prem Kumar Jha Appointed as New PCCF (Wildlife)

Since November 2023, Nanda, an IFS officer from the 1989 batch, has served as the Chief Wildlife Warden and PCCF (Wildlife) officer. He implemented a number of improvements in the wildlife sector despite his short term. His noteworthy achievements included helping to relocate two tigers from Central India to Similipal in order to increase genetic diversity in the tiger reserve and putting AI cameras in place for forest monitoring.

He oversaw the appointment of judicial judges as special courts for issues involving wildlife, becoming Odisha the first state to do so. He also made taking selfies or photos of scheduled wild animals, their carcasses, body parts, or trophies illegal under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972.

The additional responsibility of PCCF (Wildlife)-cum-Chief Wildlife Warden has been assigned to Mr. Jha, a 1993-batch IFS officer who is now the Director of Environment-cum-Special Secretary in the Forest, Environment, and Climate Change Department.
