One of the main rites of the Rath Yatra, which takes place on the fifth day of the celebration, is the Hera Panchami ceremony. On this day, the Nandighosha chariot, which is stationed in front of the Gundicha Temple, is broken in half by Goddess Lakshmi. One of the fun traditions that takes place during Ratha Jatra is Hera Panchami. Lord Jagannath cannot accompany Goddess Laxmi to the Gundicha shrine. It’s a common belief that when she’s upset, she sneaks inside the Gundicha temple to see her husband Lord Jagannath in order to let it all out. She is delighted when Lord Jagannath assures her that he would bring her back to the Srimandir in three days. On behalf of Lord Jagannath, the Pati Mohapatra servants would present Maha Laxmi with an Agyan Mala (a garland of the consent) as a token of his vow. Due to the nighttime rites of the gods, Goddess Lakshmi is unable to see Lord Jagannath in ample time. Goddess Laxmi then discreetly departs Srimandir by a separate route known as Hera Gouri lane after breaking a portion of Lord Jagannath’s chariot, Nandighosh ratha, to convey her wrath. The three chariots, known as Dakhina Moda, are turned southward as part of the Bahuda Jatra rite on Hera Panchami.
