In an attempt to thwart Arvind Kejriwal’s bail in a money laundering case involving purported anomalies in the Delhi excise policy, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has petitioned the Delhi High Court. Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, was given regular bail on Thursday in the money laundering case by the Rouse Avenue Court. Despite resistance from the ED, vacation judge Nyay Bindu of Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court granted the release upon submitting a bail bond of Rs1 lakh.
In order to give itself time to fight the order in the High Court, the ED had asked the court to postpone the bail bond procedure for 48 hours. The court rejected this request, stating that the bail order remained in effect.Shortly before the legislative elections on March 21, Arvind Kejriwal was taken into custody. In order to enable him to run for the Lok Sabha elections, the Supreme Court granted him temporary bail on May 10 and extended it till June 1.
