A man in Alabama claimed his golden Labrador Retriever had fleas and buried the dog underwater for three minutes. Witnesses were shocked and in amazement when the suspect stated he committed the crime because the dog had fleas.Eyewitnesses reportedly approached the owner after witnessing the sad event and dialled 911 right away, according to testimonies they later submitted to the Dauphin Island Police Department (DIPD). On the east side of Dauphin Island, the event took place close to the Audubon Bird Sanctuary.
Theodore, Alabama resident Shawn Taulbee, 54, was apprehended after authorities immediately reacted to the emergency call. Taulbee is facing a felony charge of first-degree animal cruelty to dogs. He was detained after his arrest and taken to the Mobile County Metro Jail, where he was later freed after posting a $3,000 bond. DIPD investigator Jeremy Castile described the incident in an interview with the neighbourhood news source WPMI, retelling the claims of the witnesses. Castile claimed that Taulbee’s actions were characterised by the witnesses as being heartless and without remorse.
Police were notified by witnesses who saw Taulbee walking his golden Labrador from the parking lot of the Audubon Bird Sanctuary to the boardwalk going to the beach on the Gulf of Mexico. The witnesses asserted that Taulbee put a rope around the dog’s neck and used it as a makeshift leash near the coastline. The hapless animal was then dragged into the surf, where it was eventually held for a while.
