A heavy police presence has been reported near Kirkland Avenue following a shooting incident that occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. According to Renton Police, the shooting may have resulted in “multiple victims,” though the exact toll remains unconfirmed. KOMO News has reported that three people were killed, but authorities have not officially verified this figure.
The incident took place near Kirkland Ave NE and NE 18th St, prompting law enforcement to urge residents to avoid the area as the scene remains active. “This is an active scene, so expect a heavy police presence and please avoid the area,” the Renton Police Department said in a statement.
This comes just over a week after another shooting at a transit center in Renton, where a man was shot five times following a scuffle. Prosecutors, however, declined to press charges in that case.
Sunday’s shooting occurred just hours after a separate tragedy in Los Angeles, where a vehicle plowed into a crowd on Santa Monica Boulevard in East Hollywood, injuring over 30 people—seven of them critically. The suspect, who later fled the scene, was eventually located and shot. Authorities are still investigating the motive behind the vehicle attack.
